Flesh and Acrylic

It is very hard not to notice the explosion of colour here. The vibrant nature of the colours are what looks alive in this photograph. It is not until closer inspection that you notice there is in fact a person posed in the corner where the walls intersect. It's great how the horizontal lines of solid, bright colour lead your eye towards the person. It's also brilliant how the model is painted exactly like the background, almost seamlessly blending her into the abyss of colour. I also like how the white paint adds an extra accent to the other colours.

I found this crazy artwork on tumblr, but there was a link leading to the artist's (Ben Heine) deviantart here: http://BenHeine.deviantart.com/art/Flesh-and-Acrylic-C-Madison2-213251582

Tattoo Wings

This was too great to pass up as a second post. I found this photograph on tumblr and the tattoo was done by an artist named Reed Leslie. I think the placement of it is perfect. The shading is amazing, making it really seem as though there are feathers attached to his back, shoulder blade and arm. The shading also gives the overall appeal that the feathers are soft to the touch.

Novelty Flower

I always found little crafts interesting. As soon as I saw this photograph, what intrigued me the most was the words integrated into the flower since it is made from pages in a book. I like how each "petal" is cut and curled to make the visual of the flower more realistic. I especially like the attention to detail by adding blank page petals and alternating petals with and without words as it reaches the centre of the flower. The colour red and its lack of opacity allowing the words to show through adds another layer of aesthetic to the flower.

Shadow Art

Shadow art immediately captures my attention. It makes you think twice about what you are actually looking at. I found the first image interesting because both the hand holding the cigarette and the shadow of the gun can be interpreted as symbols of death. The cigarette suggests an unhealthy lifestyle while the gun suggests violence. In this example, what is actually there can be linked to its shadow.
However, the second image took me my surprise. What appears to be a pile of junk creates a very detailed shadow of two people, perhaps friends, sharing a smoke and a drink. It amazes me how the alignment of random objects can create such a prominent form.
Lastly, some shadow typography. As a graphic designer, I thought this was a really radical way of displaying type. I find it amazing how abstract wiring can create recognizable words. I believe shadow art takes shapes and lighting onto a whole new level for communicating design through a unique medium.
I came across these images on the website Tumblr at some point in time, so I no longer have the links. Although I did find this site that has the second image, so there are more examples of shadow art here: http://www.crookedbrains.net/2009/12/art.html - enjoy! :)
